Open architectural competitions have historically provided talented young practices with their first major opportunities. In the UK, however, open competitions are increasingly rare and those that do take place are wildly oversubscribed. In this event we discuss how an emerging practice can best navigate this complex landscape with two people who have had extensive experience running competitions. Ken Kinsella is Director of Estates, Planning and Services at the University of Westminster and was formerly Director of Capital Development at the London School of Economics. Cindy Walters is a director of Walters and Cohen Architects and served as a jury member for competitions including Kingston School of Art and the LSE’s Firoz Lalji Global Hub.
