City Crit: King's Cross, July

£15.00

Join the Architecture Foundation’s expert guide Nick Edwards for a walking tour exploring King’s Cross. Discover the architectural visionaries behind the revolutionary new mixed-use district, which has transformed an enormous swathe of post-industrial central London. Located on a 27 hectare landscape of former railway sidings and warehouses – the £3 billion mega project has created a major new office, residential and educational zone anchored around a landmark Central St Martins campus with high-profile occupiers including Facebook, Google and the Aga Khan Development Network.

Following a ‘Human City’ masterplan by Porphyrios Associates and Allies and Morrison, the development has engaged some of the world’s most celebrated architects including Eric Parry, Niall McLaughlin, Wilmotte Associates, David Chipperfield Architects, dRMM and Mossessian Architecture. Key schemes which will be discussed along the route include John McAslan + Partners upgrade of King’s Cross Station, Stanton Williams’ new home for CSM, Wilkinson Eyre’s Gasholders housing, Bell Phillips’ competition-winning Gasholder Park, the R7 office block by Duggan Morris, the Aga Khan’s new academic building by Fumihiko Maki, and Coal Drops Yard by Heatherwick Studio.
