Afterparti is a fresh-thinking, architecture-infused collective with an event-and-zine series of the same name. Born out of the New Architecture Writers (N.A.W.) programme, the collective explores big ideas about contemporary urban space through the lenses of identity and race.

Issue #00 is a prototype zine (limited to 500 hand-numbered copies), an experiment in style, voice and collaboration. It takes its departure point from the N.A.W.-curated public debate The Time for Failure is Now, staged in the summer of 2018. The zine amplifies and extends those on-stage conversations, forming new arguments and critiques in response to them. This issue unpacks ideas around diversity, design colonialism, accountability and education.

Each of Afterparti’s nine members—Siufan Adey, Thomas Aquilina, Nile Bridgeman, Marwa El Mubark, Josh Fenton, Samson Fumasan, Tara Okeke, Aoi Phillips and Shukri Sultan—contribute articles in #00. Guest contributors include Akil Scafe-Smith, Pooja Agrawal and Joseph Henry, as well as interviews with Ben Derbyshire and Neba Sere.

Afterparti believes in platforms for radical, underrepresented voices. It advocates a culture of collaboration and inclusivity. It wants to fail better.
