Walking Tour: Architectural Interventions at the V&A
£8.00
Join us for a walk exploring this year's temporary installations along Exhibition Road, guided by the young architects behind the designs. Comissioned by V&A Festivals Curator, Meneesha Kellay, the structures act a testbed for tacking issues around reuse and circular economy, resulting in a fascinating series of material and conceptual studies.
The tour begins on Exhibition Road at the Algae Meadow by Seyi Adelekun, artist in residence at Assemble, and Thomas Kendall of Wayward. The duo designed the structure of algae filled timber arches to focus on biodiversity as fundamental aspect of urban life, through careful use of local resources, material and plant ecologies. We will next hear from artist Juliet Haysom and architect & Rotor collaborator Aude-Line Dulière, who will discuss Placeholders, a collection of stone urban furniture made from fragments of the V&A's transformed facade, illustrating the potential of stone as one of the lowest-impact building materials, if quarried and reused locally.
Between Forests and Skies, an immersive, self-supporting pavilion designed by emerging architecture practice Nebbia Works, is the last stop on the tour. Constructed from simple aluminium sheets, the pavilion can be easily dismantled, relocated and rebuilt, demonstrating the material's sustainable potential. After the 16 October, the pavilion will be reinstalled at COP26, and at the end of its lifecycle, will be smelted back into aluminium ingot for a multitude of other uses.

TOUR GUIDES:
Nebbia Works
Nebbia Works is a London-based architecture and 3D design studio founded in 2018 by architects Madhav Kidao and Brando Posocco. Working on the periphery of architecture, and adopting a multidisciplinary approach, Nebbia Works focuses on projects which are research and narrative-driven, leading to compelling and often unconventional solutions. Cofounders Kidao and Posocco met working at Heatherwick Studio, where they worked as part of the core design team on the Lincoln Center concert hall redevelopment and Google’s UK HQ in King’s Cross.
Seyi Adelekun
Seyi Adelekun is an artist & architectural designer, currently working at Assemble, as artist-in-residence to develop a social centre for housing rights and land reform in Spitalfields. Seyi’s practice focuses on enhancing the social infrastructures, promoting environmental stewardship and regenerative circular economies through community co-designed placemaking. Seyi is a Black Females in Architecture Advocate who cares about designing inclusive spaces that address the inequalities prohibiting marginalised people from accessing spaces.
Juliet Haysom
Juliet Haysom is an artist who is interested in architecture and makes work that has a specific relationship with place. Each of her projects develop out of a period of research, during which latent aspects of a site (such as its geology and history) suggest the strategies and material processes that are employed within the work.
Meneesha Kellay
Meneesha Kellay is a curator of Festival Programmes in the Design, Architecture and Digital team at the V&A Museum, London. Previously she ran Open House London, was a curator at the Museum of Architecture and Assistant Director of the Night School at the Architectural Association. More recently Meneesha was Public Programmes Curator at the Royal Institute of British Architects where she devised and delivered the cultural programme through talks, installations and exhibitions both in London and internationally.
