Architecture Socks: London

£8.29

These limited edition Architecture Foundation socks help raise money to support our ongoing work. They are knitted using 80% cotton for comfort and durability with designs referencing architectural drawing traditions and London's heraldry.

The "London" style features the wobbly blue and white stripes which have long been associated with the city and its river. They appear first in the County Council of London's crest and subsequently on the Greater London's Council's shield. These relics of London's heraldry can still be spotted on walls of old public housing blocks and adoring the London fire brigade's engines.

Some argue that London again needs a form a civic heraldry and that these distinctive stripes could form the basis of a new flag for the city. Until then, these socks walk in the footprints of the GLC.
